Ranch Dip Recipe

Culinary Arts catered to teachers and parent for two training sessions on Monday October 4.

We had many compliments on the chicken salad and the ranch dip. We would love to share our recipes with you!

Several Assignments for Today

1. You have been given a list colleges that offer culinary programs.
  • You should all come together to decide who is contacting which school. Everyone should contact a different school.
  • You should email the department head (or dean) and request that they send information about the college and program to ME. Encourage them to send any kind of promotional materials that they can like brocures, posters, stickers, course catalogues etc. The school's address is below.
  • If it is a school that is within 100-150 miles of Quinlan (use Google Maps) see if they would be willing to visit the campus and speak with you all about the college and program.
  • Be sure to tell them how it will benefit you all as a group.
  • You'll have to give them my contact information for scheduling purposes.
 I MUST APPROVE OF YOUR EMAIL BEFORE YOU SEND IT.

2. Take a look at the logos (here).
  • Choose your top three. You should have a small piece of paper. Don't put your name on it. Just mark your choices and turn it in.

3. First period only
  • Print off your 30 chemicals assignment and turn it in. You may have emailed it to me, look in your SENT folder.

Famous Chef

Research and report on a famous chef.

Your essay must include the following components:
  • A brief history of this person (birthdate, birthplace or hometown, date of death if they are deceased, work history).
  • Education and training 
    • Where did this person go to school?
    • Where did they learn their skills?
  • Do they have a restaurant?
    • Name
    • Location(s)
    • Theme if applicable
    • List some menu items if it is available
  • What is their trademark or what are they known for?
  • Do they have a television show? What is the concept of the show?
  • What else are they famous for? Cook books? Magazines? A line of cookware? Something I didn't list?
  • Why did you choose this person to research?
  • What can you learn from this person?
  • Images
    • Photo of your chef
    • Logo of their restaurant or brands
DO NOT use wikipedia for your research.
You must list all the sources you used (full http link from the exact location - no www.chef.com when there is a specific address like www.chef.com/gordonramsey)
Essay should be one and a half to two pages long.

Menu Design

Now that we have a logo... EMAIL it to CHEF! You can email it as an image file (if you made it in paint) or as a Word document (if you made it with MS Word).

Menu Creation
Our Student Run Restaurant needs a menu!

You must have 4 sections to your menu.
  • Appetizers or Soups
  • Salads
  • Entres or Main Courses
  • Desserts
Create 2 or 3 dishes for each menu section.

You must describe your dishes in ways that will be appetizing and make people to order this dish.
Think about it: Would you rather choose "Fried chicken strips with a dipping sauce"? Or would you prefer "Chicken strips with a seasoned batter fried to a crispy golden brown served with a healthy portion of tangy blue cheese dressing"?

Culinary Arts: Marketing Assignment

You must create a marketable name and logo for your team (class). We will use this logo for t-shirts, chef coats, uniform shirts and menus. It will also be featured on this blog.
Everyone will submit a digital file (Microsoft Word) to Mrs. Bernard's email address. Once everyone has submitted their logo, we will all vote as a team for the one logo that best represents us.
